Oak Hall, surrounded by majestic oaks, is nestled between the popular waterfront towns of Camden and Belfast in the charming Victorian village of Bayside. The iconic house was constructed in a symmetrical Georgian Style from 1910 to 1913 and exhibits impeccable craftsmanship and engineering that remains impressive by today’s standards. The red brick exterior features a two-story veranda with Ionic columns and the interior has perfectly preserved period details such as marble floors, French paneled walls, multiple fireplaces with beautifully carved mantels, restored original fixtures, intricate plaster ceilings and elaborate woodwork. Sited on a knoll and surrounded by almost 50 acres, the property features rolling green lawns and mature forest. Classic estate grounds, originally designed by Warren Manning and updated by Asa Peats of Camden, combine elements of a top Maine estate with its beautiful location and approach, views of Penobscot Bay, privacy, and a very inviting landscape.
The house was originally built for Mr. and Mrs. Cobe; Ira M. Cobe was a wealthy business man from Chicago who met the local Anna Watts on a summer trip to Belfast, Maine. The couple spent their winters in Chicago, New York and Boston and built this magnificent summer retreat for entertaining their friends and family. Part of Northport, The Bayside Historic District, is a desirable seaside cottage community known for its colorful Gothic revival summer homes. Oak Hall is located a short walk from the Bayside beach and town green, the Northport Yacht Club and the Northport Golf Course, and it is only a five-minute drive to the shops and dining in downtown Belfast.
